Our Story

My family’s farm journey began in the 1940’s when my Grandfather Albert Cuneo, purchased the farm at 1148 Noxon Rd. in Lagrangeville, where it was known as the “Cuneo Farm”, for many years. This current piece of fertile land that we farm, began its agricultural life as an apple orchard, where Albert harvested and maintained hundreds of apple trees for many years. Still, today there are a few remaining apple trees on the farm.

In the 1970’s, my Grandfather caught the cattle bug and decided to transform his apple orchard into pasture to raise grass-fed beef as a way to increase the fertility of the farm. My Brother and I started working on the property in our teen years during the late 70’s and then continued to spend time there as we grew older. Including spending time near the Mitten Rock, a boulder that my mother named for its stark resemblance of a mitten.

From 1990 - 2007, our Aunt owned the farm and leased it out for hay. My brother Keith, and I purchased the farm after she passed away. We wasted no time and started working diligently to rehab the land by spending many sweltering days picking up rocks and generating new grasses on over 70 acres. Following our grandfathers footsteps, we brought cattle back to the farm in 2010 with the purchase of 14 cow-calf pairs, these are the mothers that have grown our herd to over 75 head of purebred Hereford cattle.

Keith and I are now carrying on the legacy of producing amazing, nutrient dense beef, by raising our cattle in a humane system that builds soil integrity and feeds our community.

Mitten Rock Beef is characterized by its deep red complexion paired with bright intramuscular fat, also known as marbling.

This is a testament to the power of the diverse polyphenols and carotenoids that our animals feast upon all year around from our pastures.

Our mission is give our customers the most nutritious food possible while supporting our farm ecosystem and giving our animals an amazing life.
