Located in LaGrangeville, New York, in the heart of the Hudson Valley, we are a family-owned farm with three goals in mind:

Here at Mitten Rock Farm, our purebred Hereford cattle live on our farm for their entire life cycle. They eat only what is compatible with their biology – grass, legumes and other green forages grown on our pastures. In the warmer months, our cows are moved everyday to fresh pasture to build soil and to keep them as healthy as possible and avoid the parasites that live in continuously grazed pastures at other conventional farms. In the winter, they feast on our organic hay which we work hard all summer to harvest for them. We use moisture meters to harvest hay at exactly the right time to increase nutritional content and palpability. Throughout the year, the cows drink fresh water from our natural springs. Fresh water is an underappreciated factor in the taste of beef.
We farm organically with careful attention to the environment. Unlike the large, commodity beef producers, we don’t use antibiotics or growth hormones. We also do not use synthetic fertilizers or herbicides on our pastures or hay fields. Furthermore, we don’t even use insecticides on the cows for fly control.
Since we’ve started to use organic practices, we have noticed that the cows seem quieter and more relaxed. We have even see more butterfly and bird species on the farm each year with frequent bald eagle sightings. Nature definitely lets you know when it’s happy.
At the traditional supermarket, consumers can’t trace beef back to where it was raised. However, our customers have the confidence of knowing that their beef is sourced from a local farm using organic practices. Food security is of utmost importance for a healthy lifestyle.
